Level 4 walkthrough
Meowdoku Level 4 Walkthrough: Your First Color Locked to a Line
Meowdoku Level 4 is the first board where a color locked to a single row or column clears the way. This guide explains the butter and matcha locks and the seven cats they reveal.
Meowdoku Level 4 moves up to a 7×7 grid with seven colored regions, and it is the first level in this free browser cat puzzle game that asks for a little more than counting tiles. You still place one cat in every row, column, and color, and cats still may not touch in any direction.
The new idea is a color that has all of its open tiles in one row or column. When that happens, the line belongs to that color, and you can cross out every other tile in it. If you enjoy cat games and animal games that slowly teach you smarter logic, Meowdoku Level 4 is a rewarding board. Read on for the layout, the opening, and the key lock that makes the rest fall into place.

Meowdoku Level 4 at a glance
- Board: 7×7 grid with 7 colored regions and 7 cats to place
- Difficulty: Easy
- Hardest technique needed: Color locked to one line
- Logical steps: 12 (7 cats and 5 crosses)
- Smallest color: rose with 1 tile
Reading the seven colors on Meowdoku Level 4
The 7×7 board uses rose, apricot, butter, matcha, mint, soda, and periwinkle. Rose is again a single tile, this time in the top left corner at row 1, column 1. Apricot is a small four-tile shape in the top right, and matcha has five tiles that bend through rows 2 to 4.
Soda has six tiles along the right edge, mint has nine tiles down the left side, butter has eleven tiles across the upper left, and periwinkle is the largest with thirteen tiles along the bottom. That spread of sizes is typical of logic puzzle games: a couple of tiny colors to start from and a few big ones that resolve late.
The opening: rose in the corner, then apricot
Begin Meowdoku Level 4 with the rose cat on row 1, column 1, because that corner tile is the whole rose region. Its cat uses up row 1 and column 1.
Row 1 held three of the four apricot tiles, so once it is claimed, apricot has only row 2, column 5 left. Two quick cats in, and the top of the board is already sorted, which is the kind of steady progress that makes brain games so pleasant.
The key moment: butter and matcha locked to one line
After the first two cats, butter looks huge but has very few open tiles. Its rows 1 and 2 are taken, row 3, column 4 touches the apricot cat, and row 3, column 5 shares a column with it. What remains is row 3, column 3 and row 4, column 3, both in column 3. Because butter needs a cat and all its options sit in column 3, the column 3 cat must be butter. That lets you cross out the mint tile at row 5, column 3 and the periwinkle tiles at row 6, column 3 and row 7, column 3.
Matcha has the same shape of problem. Its open tiles now all sit in row 4, so the row 4 cat must be matcha. Cross out the mint tile at row 4, column 2 and the butter tile at row 4, column 3. That last cross leaves butter with a single tile, so its cat goes on row 3, column 3.
From there the board flows again. Matcha lands on row 4, column 6, mint on row 5, column 2, soda on row 6, column 7, and periwinkle on row 7, column 4, each one the last open tile of its color. This lock idea shows up across many puzzle games, and Meowdoku Level 4 is a gentle place to meet it.
How to spot line locks in later Meowdoku levels
Line locks become a regular tool as Meowdoku boards grow. A few habits make them easy to catch in any cat puzzle game with colored regions.
- When a color seems stuck, list only its open tiles, not its original size.
- If those open tiles share one row or column, cross every other tile in that line.
- Check for a second lock right after the first, as matcha follows butter here.
- A large region can shrink to two or three tiles after just a couple of cats.
- Use a hint if you want to confirm which color is locked before you cross tiles.
Step-by-step Meowdoku Level 4 solution
Every cat below is forced by logic, in the order a careful solver finds them. No guessing is needed. If you only want a nudge, read one step, close this page, and return to the game.
Cat 1: row 1, column 1 (rose)
The rose region has only one open tile left, so its cat goes on row 1, column 1. Technique: Last open tile in a color.
Cat 2: row 2, column 5 (apricot)
With the rows, columns, and neighbors of the first cat crossed out, the apricot region has only one open tile left, so its cat goes on row 2, column 5. Technique: Last open tile in a color.
Cat 3: row 3, column 3 (butter)
First, cross out the tiles that cannot hold a cat:
- Every open butter tile sits in column 3, so that column's cat must be butter. Cross out the mint tile at row 5, column 3.
- Every open butter tile sits in column 3, so that column's cat must be butter. Cross out the periwinkle tile at row 6, column 3.
- Every open butter tile sits in column 3, so that column's cat must be butter. Cross out the periwinkle tile at row 7, column 3.
- Every open matcha tile sits in row 4, so that row's cat must be matcha. Cross out the mint tile at row 4, column 2.
- Every open matcha tile sits in row 4, so that row's cat must be matcha. Cross out the butter tile at row 4, column 3.
With the rows, columns, and neighbors of the 2 cats placed so far crossed out, the butter region has only one open tile left, so its cat goes on row 3, column 3. Technique: Last open tile in a color.
Cat 4: row 4, column 6 (matcha)
With the rows, columns, and neighbors of the 3 cats placed so far crossed out, the matcha region has only one open tile left, so its cat goes on row 4, column 6. Technique: Last open tile in a color.
Cat 5: row 5, column 2 (mint)
With the rows, columns, and neighbors of the 4 cats placed so far crossed out, the mint region has only one open tile left, so its cat goes on row 5, column 2. Technique: Last open tile in a color.
Cat 6: row 6, column 7 (soda)
With the rows, columns, and neighbors of the 5 cats placed so far crossed out, the soda region has only one open tile left, so its cat goes on row 6, column 7. Technique: Last open tile in a color.
Cat 7: row 7, column 4 (periwinkle)
With the rows, columns, and neighbors of the 6 cats placed so far crossed out, the periwinkle region has only one open tile left, so its cat goes on row 7, column 4. Technique: Last open tile in a color.
Meowdoku Level 4 solved board
Here is the finished board. Every row, every column, and every color holds exactly one cat, and no two cats touch, not even at the corners.
Meowdoku Level 4 FAQ
What is the solution to Meowdoku Level 4?
In solve order, the cats go on row 1, column 1 (rose); row 2, column 5 (apricot); row 3, column 3 (butter); row 4, column 6 (matcha); row 5, column 2 (mint); row 6, column 7 (soda); and row 7, column 4 (periwinkle).
What is the first move on Meowdoku Level 4?
Settle the rose cat on row 1, column 1. Rose is a single tile, so its cat has nowhere else to go.
What is the hardest part of Meowdoku Level 4?
The hardest step is noticing that every open butter tile sits in column 3 and every open matcha tile sits in row 4. Crossing the other tiles in those lines leaves butter with one tile at row 3, column 3.
Is Meowdoku a free game?
